Company Registration Across India: City and State Guides

In short

Compare Company Registration guides for Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Noida and Jaipur.

Company Registration in India is completed online through the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, but the registered office location still matters. The city and state determine the Registrar of Companies jurisdiction, stamp duty and some state-level registrations or professional-tax requirements.

This directory connects metro and non-metro locations with the national process and state-specific research. Use a dedicated local guide where available; other city entries link to their state context and preparation guidance.

Does the Company Registration Process Change by City?

The core incorporation process remains broadly the same across India: Digital Signature Certificates, company-name approval, SPICe+ and linked forms, registered-office proof, professional certification and approval by the Registrar. What changes locally can include the ROC jurisdiction, stamp duty and state-specific registrations.

Which City Should You Use for the Registered Office?

A company should use a genuine address where statutory communications can be received and where the company has lawful use of the premises. The registered office does not have to be a large commercial office, but the address proof and owner consent must satisfy the applicable filing requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I register a company in one city while living in another?

Yes. Directors and shareholders do not need to live in the same city as the registered office. The company must, however, have a valid registered-office address in the state shown in its incorporation documents.

Is Company Registration online in every Indian city?

Yes. Company incorporation is filed electronically through the MCA system. The relevant ROC jurisdiction and state rules still depend on the registered-office location.

Does stamp duty differ by state?

Yes. Stamp duty on incorporation documents can vary by state, so two otherwise similar companies may have different government costs depending on their registered office.

Editorial Note

This city hub is designed to help readers move from the national Company Registration process to the local ROC, stamp-duty and state-rule information relevant to their registered office.

Connect city guidance with state-level research

Use city guides for local registration context and the ranked State-wise directory for historical Company registration figures. Every state/UT profile now lists representative cities, towns or local centres, with links to the relevant published city guides.

Start with Maharashtra: Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane and Pune, Gujarat: Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot or Uttar Pradesh: Lucknow, Noida and other centres.

The trend figures are state-level, not city-level. They include Private Companies, OPCs and Public Companies; LLPs are excluded.
