Company & LLP Registration Trends in India — February 2023

In short

February 2023: 5,238 Company and LLP registrations in India, with entity-wise shares and historical February comparison from 2016 onward.

February 2023 — Key Observations

February 2023 recorded 5,238 registrations, down (71.9%) from February 2022 (18,669), the steepest February fall in the 2016–2026 series. It is the lowest February in the 2016–2026 series. Private Limited made up (51.7%) of the month, LLPs (46.5%) and OPCs (1.4%); the LLP share rose from (21.7%) in February 2022. Compared with the previous month, January 2023 (14,787), registrations were down (64.6%). Company registrations this month are unusually low because company incorporation forms (SPICe+ and RUN) moved to the MCA21 V3 portal on 23 January 2023. Applications slowed while the new system settled.

Financial-year context: February 2023 falls in FY 2022–23. Monthly counts remain observations for the named month, not full-year totals. January–March 2016 falls in FY 2015-16, so it is not counted in Financial Year totals, but it is included in month-to-month comparisons.

How to read this data

Registration numbers measure the creation of legal entities. They do not indicate whether those entities later became profitable, raised funding, employed people or remained active. The purpose of this series is to study incorporation activity and changes in preferred legal structures over time.
