How to Register a Preschool and Play School Business in India?

In short

Compare structures for preschool and play school in India, with ownership questions, operating approvals and annual compliance costs.

For a preschool, play school or early-learning centre, confirm the permitted operating model under local rules before selecting an entity. Co-founders can then compare LLP, Partnership or Pvt Ltd where eligible; a sole operator should assess the permitted options.

Ownership questions for your preschool and play school

Before paying a franchise fee, decide who holds the lease and employs teachers. Child safety, collection arrangements and parent communications need clear responsibility even in a small centre.

Pvt Ltd, LLP, OPC, Proprietorship or Partnership?

  • Pvt Ltd: compare for company shares, co-founders, outside equity investment and employee equity plans.
  • LLP: compare for two or more owners operating as partners; agree contributions, work roles and profit sharing.
  • OPC: assess for an eligible sole founder seeking a company structure; consider how future co-founders would join.
  • Proprietorship: assess for one owner accepting personal business liability.
  • Partnership: assess shared ownership while recognising partners' generally personal liability for firm obligations.

Limited liability has exceptions, and personal guarantees can create personal exposure. Compare the proposed contracts and financing before choosing.

Registrations and operating requirements

Review NCPCR play-school guidance and the applicable state recognition, premises and safety rules. A commercial preschool and a recognised school can have different requirements.

Check requirements for the actual activity and location before committing to premises, equipment or customer contracts. Incorporation and operating permission are separate.

Covers records classified as education; EdTech businesses classified under software or other activities may be outside the table. Trusts, societies and separately classified Section 8 entities are not comprehensively represented.

Coverage notes: Calculations use MCA monthly incorporation reporting periods from 1 April 2016 to 30 September 2026. FY 2021–22 is missing November 2021, January 2022 and March 2022. FY 2026–27 covers April–September 2026 only. Records without usable activity codes are excluded from sector allocation, including LLP records in October 2018 without activity codes. Code definitions changed over time; the stated legacy/newer scope is retained. No missing records are estimated. The sector table includes Private Limited, LLP and OPC only; Public/Other Companies, Foreign Companies, Proprietorships and ordinary Partnerships are excluded. Private Limited excludes OPC. These sector tables are not the Company-only state tables, which exclude LLPs.

A common founder question

Does a preschool franchise provide every approval?

No. Check what the franchise provides and what the local operator must obtain for the actual premises and services.
